Recent Fatal Incidents Under Investigation
Sorocaba Pizzeria Tragedy
A particularly devastating incident occurred on July 12, 2024, when a 24-year-old employee lost their life in a cargo elevator accident. MTE inspectors found that failed steel cables led to the elevator's collapse, resulting in fatal injuries to the worker's arm and leg despite emergency medical intervention at Sorocaba Hospital Complex.
Pindamonhangaba Industrial Accident
Another tragic incident involved a 27-year-old maintenance technician at an aluminum factory in Pindamonhangaba. The fatality occurred during maintenance work on an aluminum coil transport vehicle in the cold rolling department.
Prevention and Safety Management
The MTE's National Labor Accident Project Coordination emphasizes that workplace accidents typically result from multiple contributing factors rather than single causes. They recommend:
- Implementation of comprehensive safety management systems
- Regular risk assessments
- Structured workplace maintenance programs
- Thorough worker safety training
- Preventive measures in compliance with NR-01 regulations
Safety Compliance Requirements
Companies must focus on:
- Eliminating workplace hazards
- Installing both individual and collective protection measures
- Establishing clear safety communication channels
- Maintaining rigorous safety standards
